Valerie Lau

Valerie Frances Ualani Lau, 72, of Waimea passed away Jan. 5 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired office clerk, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waimea and the Waimea Senior Center. Visitation from 9-10 a.m. Saturday (April 29, 2023) at the King’s Chapel Honokaa (45-3370 Old Mamalahoa Hwy., Honokaa); a celebration of her life will begin at 10. Casual attire. She is survived by daughters, Jennifer Lau of Henderson, Nevada, Rochelle Freitas of Henderson, Nevada, Kelly(Danrick) Perreira of Henderson, Nevada, Jolene (Kala’i) Decker of Waimea; son, Roland (Joanie) Lau, Jr. of Waimea; sister, Venus Cabinatan of Oahu; mother-in-law, Theresa Lau of Waimea; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Jace Frendo

Jace Maka’ala Frendo, 47, of Hilo, died Jan. 13 at home. He was born in Hilo and was a cabinet maker with Big Island Countertops. Celebration of Life gathering 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 29) at the Ainaloa Long House. Memorial service at 12 noon. Allan Takeya

Allan Masayuki Takeya, 78, of Hilo, died Jan. 29 at home. He was born in Hakalau and was a retired superintendent with the State Parks Division, State of Hawaii, worked for James Ishii General Contractor and was also a Veteran of the US Army and National Guard. Visitation 12 noon-2 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 29) at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Michael Torres

Michael Anthony Torres, 60, of Hilo died on Mar. 16 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalihi, Oahu, he was a landscaper and formerly a foreman for Hualani Farms. Private services. Alan Yokote

Alan Masato Yokote, 79, of Hilo died Apr. 3 at his residence. Born in Honolulu, he was the retired owner of Cap’s Rubbish Service and a member of the Hilo Hooganji Mission. Neal Akamine

Neal Kiyo Akamine, 63, of Hilo, died Apr. 11 at the Castle Medical Center on Oahu. He was born in Honolulu and was a former restaurant manager with Zippy’s, a Veteran of the US Navy, and was also a member and musician at the Haili Church.
